ByWater
A colorful, bohemian riverside neighborhood known for its vibrant street art, historic shotgun homes, and arguably the city's hippest dining scene.
WELCOME TO
ByWater
Welcome to Bywater, where creativity flows as freely as the Mississippi River. Bursting with color and character, this neighborhood is a haven for artists and free spirits, offering a gritty yet enchanting mix of old-world architecture and modern bohemian flair.
Situated "downriver" from the French Quarter and Marigny, Bywater feels like a secret village. It resisted gentrification for years, resulting in a unique aesthetic where peeling paint on Creole cottages is celebrated alongside pristine renovations. It is known as the "Sliver by the River" (along with Marigny) because it sits on high ground. Today, it is one of the trendiest spots in the city, filled with mural-covered walls, community gardens, and incredible restaurants.
local lifestyle
The Bywater lifestyle is slow and eccentric. Residents bike everywhere. You’ll see neighbors trading fruit over fences, artists working in open studios, and locals gathering at The End of the World (the park at the edge of the Industrial Canal) to watch ships pass. It is inclusive, funky, and deeply community-oriented.
